Every week, someone writes to us asking the same thing. "We want to come to Goa. When should we come?" And every time, the answer depends on what they are actually looking for. A honeymoon couple, a group of friends, a family with kids, and a solo traveller each need a completely different season to have the trip they are imagining.
Goa is genuinely a year-round destination, but each season gives you a completely different Goa. December is parties and packed beaches. July is empty resorts and green hills. October is waterfalls and quiet cafés. April is pool-time and cheap luxury. If you pick the season that matches your goal, you will love Goa. If you pick the wrong season for the wrong trip, you will come home wondering what the hype was about.
This guide is our complete, honest month-by-month view of the best time to visit Goa. Written by the GoaThrills team from our Calangute office, based on hosting guests through every season of the year. If you want us to build a package around your dates, that is part of what we do as the best DMC for Goa.
1. Quick answer: the four Goa seasons
If you only read one paragraph, read this. Goa has four clear seasons and each one serves a different traveller.
| Season | Months | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Peak season | November to February | Beaches, nightlife, watersports, honeymoons, everything open |
| Shoulder season | October and March | Best value, fewer crowds, all activities still open |
| Summer season | April and May | Pool-time, spa, resorts, budget luxury, no crowds |
| Monsoon season | June to September | Waterfalls, greenery, spa, slow travel, cheapest rates |
Now let us break down each season properly, so you understand exactly what you are signing up for.
2. Peak season: November to February
This is the Goa most people picture. Blue skies, cool sea breeze, calm water, packed beaches, every activity open, and busy cafés and clubs every night. Temperatures sit between 22 and 32 degrees. Humidity drops. Sea conditions are ideal for swimming, watersports and cruises.
If you are visiting Goa for the first time, planning a honeymoon, or coming with a family that wants a classic beach holiday, this is your window. It is also when prices are at their highest, both for hotels and for flights.
Why peak season is the best
Every watersports operator, cruise, scuba centre, beach shack, market and club is open. Sea conditions are safe. Every sunset is clean. Your Goan trip will feel like the postcards you have seen, with the crowds to match.
What to know: book 45 to 60 days in advance, especially for December. Do not expect to walk into a beach-facing 4-star at 6 PM and get a room. And expect to pay for taxi rides, sunbeds and drinks at tourist rates.
3. Shoulder season: October and March
This is our favourite window for most travellers, and the one we recommend to guests whenever their dates are flexible. Here is why.
October: The monsoon has just ended. The state is at its greenest. Waterfalls like Dudhsagar are still roaring. The sea is calming down but not yet at peak safety. Hotel rates are still 25 to 35 percent below December prices. Crowds are moderate. Photographers and nature lovers especially love October in Goa.
March: Weather is still pleasant, sea is warm, every activity is open, and hotel prices start to dip as peak season winds down. This is the last comfortable window before summer heat arrives.
The hidden value window
Most travellers either book peak season or avoid Goa entirely during off-season. The smartest travellers book October or March. You get 90 percent of the peak-season experience at 65 percent of the price. If your dates are at all flexible, seriously consider these two months.
4. Summer season: April and May
April and May are hot. Temperatures climb to 35 degrees and above by midday. Beaches empty out by 10 AM. This is not the season for long beach walks or outdoor sightseeing.
But it is an excellent season for a specific kind of trip: resort-first, pool-centric, spa-heavy, air-conditioned. If your idea of a Goa holiday is lounging by a pool, drinking cocktails, getting a massage, and eating well, April and May are genuinely great value. 5-star properties that charge 25,000 per night in December charge 9,000 to 12,000 in May.
Summer is also the season for casino nights, night markets, and nightlife, which all happen after the heat of the day. And the sea is warm, so swimming is comfortable in the early mornings and evenings.
5. Monsoon season: June to September
The monsoon transforms Goa into a completely different state. The beaches are empty. The hills are emerald green. Waterfalls roar. Roads are slick. All watersports, scuba, cruises and beach swimming are closed because the sea is dangerous.
Monsoon is not for everyone. If you want beaches, nightlife, watersports and sun, do not come in monsoon. If you want green hills, spa time, long lazy meals, Dudhsagar Falls at full power, and 60 percent lower hotel prices, monsoon is incredible.
What is open in monsoon
Open: resorts, spas, cafés, restaurants, Dudhsagar Falls (when not closed by forest department), spice plantations, Old Goa churches, Panaji heritage walks, night markets, indoor activities. Closed: all watersports, scuba diving, dolphin trips, beach swimming, cruises.

11. When to book your Goa trip
Booking timing matters as much as the season itself. Here is our honest guidance.
| Season | Book Advance | Why |
|---|---|---|
| December (last 2 weeks) | 90 to 120 days | Peak festive rush. Good resorts sell out 3 to 4 months ahead. |
| January and February | 60 to 90 days | High demand, limited good rooms. |
| November | 45 to 60 days | Season ramping up. |
| October and March | 30 to 45 days | Shoulder season, still competitive. |
| April, May and September | 20 to 30 days | Availability is good. |
| June to August | 15 to 20 days | Very quiet, easy to book late. |
For groups of 20 or more, add 2 to 3 weeks to all of the above. Corporate events in peak season often need 4 to 5 months advance booking for the best properties. Every Goa group package we handle is booked with this timeline in mind.
Our best general advice
If your dates are flexible and you want the best Goa trip for your money, book October or March. You get peak-season quality at shoulder-season prices. If your dates are fixed by work or school holidays, book as early as you possibly can.
